Deltarack at 3000 Meters: High-Altitude Facade Solutions in the Swiss Alps

At Deltarack, we are proud to work with RUCH Metallbau AG, a renowned Swiss company known for its precision and expertise in metal construction. RUCH Metallbau AG starts where others stop. Following this credo, RUCH realizes structures made of steel and glass. With creativity, engineering and the courage to break new ground. A current flagship project is the Titlis Tower in Engelberg, Obwalden, which is expected to be completed in autumn 2025. The building will then open in 2026.

The Titlis Tower Project

The Titlis Tower project is an extraordinary endeavor set high in the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of over 3000 meters. This ambitious project involves constructing four access towers that will be integral to the functionality of the new Titlis Turm. Two of these towers are designed to house lifts, while the other two will serve as escape staircases, making this not only a challenging construction project but also a critical one for safety and accessibility in this remote mountain environment.

Given the project’s unique location and the technical demands of working at such a high altitude, every aspect of construction has to be meticulously planned and executed. The facade elements, which play a crucial role in the tower’s design, are large, heavy, and need to be transported with the utmost care.

Custom Solutions for a High-Altitude Challenge

In collaboration with RUCH, Deltarack designed a custom version of our WA110 rack specifically for this project. Understanding the unique requirements, we optimized the WA110 rack in both length and configuration to accommodate the significant weight of the facade panels. The final version of this custom rack is two meters long and features six vertical WA110 uprights, reinforced with central middle pieces to ensure stability and strength.

What makes this project truly unique is the logistical challenge of transporting and assembling these facade elements. The panels are first transported by truck from RUCH’s workshop in Altdorf, Uri, to Engelberg, Obwalden. From there, they are flown by helicopter to the construction site at over 3000 meters above sea level. This complex process requires precise coordination and reliable equipment, and we are proud that our custom racks meet these stringent demands.

Additionally, all racks used in this project were branded with the RUCH logo printed on the horizontal slats, symbolizing our strong partnership and the combined expertise that brought this project to life.

A Partnership in Engineering Excellence

The collaboration between Deltarack and RUCH Metallbau AG on the Titlis Tower project highlights the effectiveness of combining tailored solutions with high-quality engineering. By working together, we have successfully addressed the challenges of constructing in a demanding environment, ensuring that the facade elements are delivered and installed safely and efficiently.

This project underscores the value of our partnership with RUCH Metallbau AG, and we look forward to future opportunities to collaborate on similarly complex and innovative projects.Start writing here...
